James Sterling - Sensei

     James Sterling Sensei began his study of Aikido in 1992 under the teaching of Steven Williams Sensei (Yondan) in Phoenix Arizona. He is a Sandan with the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan through Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan.

     Sterling Sensei began his study in the Martial Arts at the age of 13 in Judo and Ju jitsu. He later entered service in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division, 2-14 (LI). After discharge from service Sterling Sensei began his study of Aikido and joined The Alliance of Guardian Angels, Chapter 29 in Phoenix, Arizona. There he led the chapter, and trained the members in Aikido. In 1994 Sterling Sensei, under Bill Elderts Sensei (Sandan), opened the Hei Ki (Universal Energy) Aikido Club in Victorville, California.
     After returning to Arizona and Desert Wind Aikido, he joined the State of Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, graduating in the top of his class, and later Department of Corrections, again graduating in the top of his class, where he became a TSU (Tactical Support Unit) team member. In 2000 Sterling Sensei relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada with the State of Nevada Department of Prisons, and in April of 2001 opened Desert Wind Aikido Las Vegas.

     Sterling Sensei has worked with state, and federally contracted agencies, as well as security in the nightclub and casino industries, being assigned to special details and personal escort to high profile figures such as General Norman Schwarzkopf, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. He has conducted many charitable classes for organizations such as Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, Nevada Children's Center, Clark County Parks & Recreation Rec Trek program, and has also conducted self-defense and awareness classes for local government agencies, and private organizations both in Arizona and Nevada.
     Sterling Sensei has been employed as a Police Officer with the Department Of Defense Force Protection Unit and has conducted Defensive Tactics classes for DOD Officers and U.S. Navy Training Cadre, FTO's, Border Patrol and US Customs agents.
     In 2006 Sterling Sensei conducted personal protection missions as a PSD (Personal Security Detail) Operator in Iraq for high ranking U.S. military personnel, as well as civilian personnel key to the building of the Iraq infrastructure, and presently a volunteer to conduct defensive tactics training for the Las Vegas Chapter of the Guardian Angels upon their request. In addition, Sterling Sensei is owner/chief instructor of Responsible Firearm Owners in Las Vegas, Nevada, and a Certified NRA Firearms Instructor developing curriculums, conducting classes/workshops, hosting seminars and guest instructors, and remains active in the personal protection industry    .

     Edsel Sanchez Sempai began his study of the martial arts in 2001. He is a Shodan with the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan through Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan, and Ikkyu in Araki Ryu Iaido with the Meirin Kai Association of Himeji, Japan under Corella Sensei, and Toyoda Osamu Soke.

     With the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Sempai Sanchez holds a Masters in Special Education. He is a full time teacher with the Clark County School District assigned to troubled and less fortunate children with cognitive disabilities and behavioral issues. Sempai Sanchez continues to study Aikido, and assists instructing classes at Shidokan.
     Summer Peterson Sempai began her study of Aikido in 2004. She is a Shodan with the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan through Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan.

     Sempai Summer has co-led the Shidokan Children’s Aikido class in 2006 & 2007, and has assisted in leading the adult Aikido class at DWMA since 2006.

     Additionally, Sempai Summer has reached the level of Marksman with Responsible Firearm Owners, and is a NRA Certified Instructor in Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun.
     Jaimie Peterson Sempai began her study of Aikido in 2005. She is a Shodan with the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan through Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan.

     Sempai Jaimie has co-led the Shidokan Children’s Aikido class in 2006 & 2007, and has assisted in leading the adult Aikido class at DWMA since 2006.

     Additionally, Sempai Jaimie has reached the level of Marksman with Responsible Firearm Owners, and is a NRA Certified Instructor in Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun.
     Kelly Goebel began his study in the Martial Arts at the age of 13 in Karate, and later in Tae Kwon Do. From 1992-96, Kelly honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal and Infantry Dragon Gunner in the Hawaiian Islands, and other various assignments around the globe. While stationed in Hawaii, Kelly was introduced to Aikido in 1993 under Eric Noguchi Sensei in Kailua, Hawaii, and studied there for 3 years. After discharge from service, and his return home, in 1998 Kelly was employed at the Nevada Test Site for the Dept. of Energy as a Security Police Officer, and was a member of the national competition shooting team for four years.

   
      In 2000, Kelly returned to his study of Aikido in Las Vegas NV, and in 2003 worked in Kuwait as a guard force supervisor, acting in a military police capacity, responsible for the protection of US military assets throughout Kuwait. Upon returning to the United States in 2005, Kelly resumed his Aikido training with Desert Wind Martial Arts, and presently holds the rank of Shodan with the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan through Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan.

     Presently, Kelly is employed with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority, and various companies within the Las Vegas Metropolitan area as a Personal Security Detail agent assigned to special details and personal escort to high profile figures such as Mayor Oscar Goodman, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, and Elizabeth Taylor among many others.

     Additionally, Kelly is a Certified NRA Firearms Instructor with Responsible Firearm Owners assisting in the development of curriculums, conducting classes/workshops, and remains active in the personal protection industry.
     Mark A. Linsenbardt, is the co-owner and lead facilitator for Leadership Challenge Camp, a small company that teaches leadership to teens who are involved in high school JROTC programs. After only a few years in business, this company was asked to serve as the official west coast United States Marine Corps JROTC summer camp, and is one of the only two organizations that serve in this capacity. A fivetime internationally published author, Sempai Mark’s technical writing has been translated into multiple languages and has been included in Microsoft Tech-Net. Recognized as an innovative leader, Sempai Mark provides business advice to several local businesses, small business owners, managers, and leaders.
     A longtime public speaker and trainer, Sempai Mark has facilitated instructional environments ranging from small intimate, highly technical software classes to very large personal growth seminars speaking to thousands. Sempai Mark has produced a series of videos on a variety of topics such as Results, Accomplishment, Feedback, Communication, Customer Service, and more. In addition he has conducted workshops on all of these topics both as a private consultant and as a senior manager.

     Part of a small group of professionals who helped bring Microsoft Certified Training to the Las Vegas area, Sempai Mark is a master trainer who has been commended repeatedly for his fast paced, humorous delivery of difficult and complex topics. As an author, his work has been praised as “Easy to read” and “Very Thorough”.

     In the Dojo, Sempai Mark is friendly and helpful, and presently holds the rank of Shodan with the Aikido World Headquarters in Japan through Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan. He is mentor and friend who is driven to discover the “magic” in Aikido, and loves to share and encourage this path of discovery with others.
